Trevor Siemian was attracted by the Bears franchise's clear vision for future
The Bears and QB Trevor Siemian agreed to terms on a two-year deal a few weeks ago. At the time, I really liked the addition, and I still think he can be a very solid pickup for the Bears.
Siemian is a former 7th round pick by the Denver Broncos. He surprised everyone and gained the starting job as soon as in his second year. He played 3 seasons in Denver and he was a pretty solid quarterback.
He signed with the New Orleans Saints last season. He played in 6 games and started 4 of them. Although he didn't win a game, he played actually great. In those 4 starts, he has 1154 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
Here is what he said in an interview on the Bears website:
"The compass is set," Siemian said. "These are really smart guys who believe in what they're doing and have a clear vision for the direction of the club. That was something that was attractive for me. There were a few [opportunities], but none that got me as excited as coming here."
Since joining the NFL in 2015 as a seventh-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos, he's been part of a Super Bowl-winning team, he's started 29 games and been a teammate/backup of two all-time-greats QBs in Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.
He said that these experiences teach him a lot:
"You try to learn so much and it can be overwhelming," Siemian said. "But to me, it's exciting because you can bite off as much as you can in this game and there's always things you can learn from different players. I've been around Peyton and Drew, but I've also been around some other really good players that I try to pick things up from. Certainly with those two guys, I know what it looks like to play at that Hall of Fame-type level. And each guy does it differently. I think that was cool to see."
Here was his reaction when he signed the contract:
