In an appearance on the "Up & Adams Show" on Super Bowl LVII Radio Row, Tagovailoa disclosed his plan to better safeguard himself from head injuries. He revealed that he will commence practicing judo every Friday to improve his understanding of his body and "how to fall." Tagovailoa stated, "We have a plan in place. I'll be doing judo on Fridays just to figure out my body and how to fall. I'm not trying to be reckless, just trying to help myself."
The 24-year-old quarterback sustained two known concussions during the 2022 regular season, the most notable of which took place during a game against the Bengals and resulted in his body assuming a fencing posture before he was carried off the field on a stretcher. His second confirmed concussion occurred during the Christmas Day loss to the Green Bay Packers, and he remained in concussion protocol until earlier this month.
In the 13 games he played in, Tagovailoa threw for 3,548 yards, with 25 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He established career-highs with a passer rating of 105.5 and a QBR of 68.9.
