In fact, it was Daniel Greenberg who reported that Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Velus Jones Jr told @adamrank that he plans to train with New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara this offseason.
Velus Jones averaged more yards after contact (4.02) than every single wide receiver taken ahead of him in the draft. That is an incredible fact because this receiving class was extremely deep. When you combined that with Jones averaging 8.32 yards after the catch last season, you get a YAC monster. So, unless the majority of his receptions were behind the line of scrimmage, that means Jones was a walking first-down machine.
It was well-documented that Bears QB Justin Fields was advocating for Ryan Poles to select WR Velus Jones jr in the draft. Fields was reportedly a very big fan of Jones' and he believed that he could be a solid player in Chicago's offense.
Here is what Velus Jones had to say about Fields when he arrives in Chicago:
He told me to lock him in, and gave me his number and stuff. Ever since then, man, a brilliant guy and his work ethic are just insane. He's in the facilities every day. I know with this week off a lot of people aren't here right now but he's still in the building each and every day. Grinding and working. So that motivates me to see my quarterback putting in the work to have the season that he knows he can have.»
