We all know this story. The Bears started with only five picks and turned it into eleven! The picks actually revolve around our new GM and HC's backgrounds. The early focus was on the defense. HC Matt Eberflus being a former defensive coordinator he knew what he wanted to establish his side of the ball. Followed by a lot of offensive linemen, GM Ryan Poles' former position in the NFL. Sprinkle in a receiver, running back, and punter and they filled some holes left in the roster from departed players.
Lions Draft:DE-Aidan HutchinsonWR- Jameson WilliamsDE- Josh PaschalS- Kerby JosephTE- James MitchellMLB- Malcolm RodriguezOLB- James HoustonCB- Chase Lucas
Getting the first overall pick rarely hurts a team's draft hopes. There was a lot of speculation around who the Lions would take with their pick. Detroit hoping to get the same production out of Hutchinson that the Colts got out of former Michigan teammate Kwity Paye. With their eight picks, the Lions were also able to grab Kerby Joseph, who I thought the Bears may look into adding. Like the Bears, the Lions also focused heavily on their defense in this draft, only adding a tight end and receiver for the offense.
Packers Draft:MLB- Quay WalkerDT- Devonte WyattWR- Christian WatsonOG- Sean RhyanWR- Romeo DoubsOG- Zach TomOLB- Kingsley EnagbareMLB- Tariq CarpenterDT- Jonathan FordOT- Rasheed WalkerWR- Samori Toure
Aaron Rodgers always complains that he never gets weapons from the draft, they lost Davonte Adams but they drafted Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure. Watson, the big name out of NDSU, sticks out for me. He met with the Bears twice before the draft and ends up in the conference still, most likely looking to bump Randall Cobb and Sammy Watkins down on the depth chart. The Packers also tried to protect Rodgers, drafting three more offensive linemen. But they left experts scratching their heads with their first pick of Quay Walker. He is considered a bit of a project player who showed flashes because the offense was preoccupied with his teammates, a lot of whom were still on the board at the time.
Vikings Draft:S- Lewis ClineCB- Andrew BoothOG- Ed IngramMLB- Brian AsamoahCB- Akayleb EvansDE- Esezi OtomewoRB- Ty ChandlerOT- Vederian LoweWR- Jalen NailorTE- Nick Muse
The Vikings felt generous this draft. Trading back and giving two of the Packers and Lions higher picks for little in return. I guess it's too bad the Bears weren't looking to move up this draft. They did however get Andrew Booth, considered by many, one of the biggest draft steals of this year. Hopefully, he's good because with the trades they made to the rivals he's going to end up covering both selections. The Lions nabbing Jameson Williams out of Alabama and the Packers getting Christian Watson.
