The 2023 NFL Draft saw Gervon Dexter become the second Florida Gator to be selected, as the Chicago Bears picked the defensive lineman with their No. 53 choice in the second round on Friday night.

The Bears continued to focus on strengthening their lines, as Dexter's selection followed their first-round pick of Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright at No. 10 on Thursday.

Chicago's General Manager, Ryan Poles, made a strategic move to enhance the team's trenches by picking Dexter, who offers the Bears versatility as a defensive lineman. Dexter is capable of lining up at both 1-technique and 3-technique positions, showcasing adaptability on the field.

This decision aligns with the Bears' offseason approach, where they have targeted players who can excel in multiple roles. Dexter possesses an impressive first step that allows him to penetrate the line and disrupt the opposition's run game effectively.

Last season, the Bears struggled with the NFL's weakest defensive line, which prompted the team to prioritize improvements in this area during the offseason. They brought in experienced free agent Andrew Billings to join forces with Justin Jones and now add Gervon Dexter to the mix, bolstering their defensive line for the upcoming season.
