The decision to choose Wright wasn't without controversy. Many expected the team to pick Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who was still available at No. 9. However, the Bears elected to swap spots with the Philadelphia Eagles for a future fourth-round pick and chose Wright at No. 10.
According to Poles, the team's infatuation with Wright became serious when they brought him in for a private visit. They put him through a rigid workout, testing his mental and physical toughness, and were impressed with what they saw.
Wright allowed no sacks and just eight pressures in 2022, while facing off against some of the best pass rushers in the SEC. He even neutralized Will Anderson, the first defensive player taken off the board this year, and B.J. Ojulari, who many expect could be selected in the first or second round.
In a video of Wright taking on Anderson, arguably college football's best pass rusher, he didn't allow any sacks to his quarterback. With Wright's dominant size and footwork at the tackle position, the Bears are looking forward to seeing him elevate their game on the field.
