Ex-Bears Tight End Joins Vikings Roster
Robert Tonyan Jr., the former Bears tight end, has shifted his NFL journey to the Minnesota Vikings, as confirmed by ESPN's Adam Schefter. Tonyan, who has now been part of three NFC North teams, aims to continue his professional stride with the Vikings after his recent stint with the Bears, where he garnered 11 catches for 112 yards across 17 targets.
During his five seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Tonyan achieved notable success, recording 137 receptions, 1,437 yards, and 17 touchdowns. His departure from the Bears followed their decision to acquire Gerald Everett, previously with the Rams, Seahawks, and Chargers, reinforcing their tight end lineup behind Cole Kmet.
Tonyan, a native of McHenry, Illinois, had hoped to extend his career with the Bears but now sets his sights on making an impact with the Vikings. Detroit remains the only NFC North team yet to sign him.
Other notable Bears who remained free agents after significant roles last year include defensive ends Yannick Ngakoue and Rasheem Green, tight end Marcedes Lewis, and linebacker Dylan Cole. Additionally, safety Eddie Jackson and guard Cody Whitehair were released before free agency; Whitehair has since joined the Raiders on a one-year, $2.62 million deal, while Jackson is still on the market.
Recent movements post-draft saw punter Trenton Gill cut and subsequently signed by the Denver Broncos.
