WATCH: Former NFL QB Robert Griffin III Reveals Caleb Williams Should Pull a 'Eli Manning' on the Bears (Video)
After the Bears traded away QB Justin Fields to the Steelers, it's looking almost certain that they will be drafting USC QB Caleb Williams with the number 1 pick in the upcoming draft.
In a new video from former NFL QB Robert Griffin III (RG3) he explains why Williams will not want to join the Bears and why he should pull an "Eli Manning" on draft day:
As many of his remember, or have learned, former Giants legendary QB Eli Manning was originally supposed to be drafted by the Chargers back in 2004, as Manning was the number 1 prospect and the Chargers held the 1st overall pick. However, Manning, from the help of his father, refused to play for the Chargers due to former QB Ryan Leaf's experience on the team.
Due to this ongoing battle to not play on the Chargers, the Chargers and Giants mutually agreed on a trade that would send Manning to the Giants in exchange for a few picks and QB Philip Rivers.
This ended up working well for Manning, as he finished his career as a 4-time Pro Bowler and a 2-time Super Bowl champion, along with being named as the Super Bowl MVP for both.
RG3 wants to see the same for Williams due to the way the Bears treated Fields. RG3 feels like the Bears failed Fields as a player, and fears the same will happen to Williams.
Though I can see where he is coming from, I don't agree with this take.
Williams will be joining a team that has been built for him. He will be playing with standout WR DJ Moore and likely future Hall of Famer WR Keenan Allen. Not to mention Pro Bowler D'Andre Swift and top name TEs with Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett.
This is possibly the "best" situation for any rookie QB.
