The Chicago Bears continue their search for both head coach and general manager and things are heating up. So far we've mostly heard the names attached to the head coaching position and not so much the GM position. However they've just requested permission to speak with three pretty respectable names in the football world. The Bears have requested permission to speak with Pittsburgh Steelers VP of Football and Business Administration, Omar Khan. Khan has been with Pittsburgh since 2001 and also worked with the New Orleans Saints from 1997-2001. The one road block here is that there's reports Steelers GM Kevin Colbert is ready to step down as GM, a job which Khan would likely be the #1 candidate for. The second big name the Bears have reached out to is Colts Assistant GM and VP of Player Personnel Ed Dodds. It seems the Bears are quite intrigued by the Colts as they've already requested to speak with Colts Director of College Scouting, Morocco Brown, for GM job and DC and Matt Eberflus the Colts defensive coordinator. When it comes to Dodds, he's looked at as one of the most respected talent evaluators across the league and was looked at multiple teams last year. He's worked with the Colts since 2017 and before that helped the Seattle Seahawks win their Super Bowl. The third name on the newest list is New Orleans Saints assistant GM Jeff Ireland. Ireland might give some Bears' fans PTSD as of course that's where Ryan Pace came from but some would argue Ireland has had much more to do with the Saints recent success than Pace ever did. Ireland's grandfather was a Bears' scout way back when and Jeff served as a ballboy for the team for 12 years. He also served as the Miami Dolphins GM from 2008-13. Which of the three do you think would be a good fit?
