In 2019, Matt Eberflus was in his second year as the Indianapolis Colts' defensive coordinator when the team drafted cornerback Rock Ya-Sin as the No. 34 overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft. Ya-Sin moved to the Las Vegas Raiders last year, coinciding with Eberflus' transition to the Bears for his first head coaching opportunity.
Now, just a season later, the chance to reunite the coach and player in Chicago has emerged. Bill Zimmerman from SB Nation's Windy City Gridiron proposed this idea while discussing the roster gaps that Bears' general manager Ryan Poles still needs to address despite an incredibly active offseason.
Ya-Sin possesses valuable experience, having played in 52 games and secured 38 starting positions throughout his four-year NFL career. While he has recorded just two interceptions, he has also defended 27 passes and forced a couple of fumbles. According to Pro Football Reference, opposing quarterbacks completed under 61% of their passes against Ya-Sin in 2022, averaging six yards per target.
