Initial reports suggest that Chicago may tend to some of these needs through free agency, yet opportunities also abound in the NFL draft. Among the various position groups, one stands out to Poles as particularly robust in this year's draft class.
"The one that stands out to me is the tackle class," Poles remarked at the NFL Scouting Combine, as reported by CBS Sports. "The tackle class is really deep this year with a ton of talent. Young, strong, big, all the measurables that you need to play the right way."
Although tackle isn't an immediate priority for the Bears, Poles remains committed to enhancing all positions. While Braxton Jones has proven reliable, there are potential franchise left tackles in the draft that Chicago might consider, possibly to complement last year's No. 10 pick, Darnell Wright.
With only five draft selections currently, following an agreement to acquire offensive lineman Ryan Bates from the Buffalo Bills, Chicago's draft strategy remains under scrutiny. Should the Bears decide to trade Justin Fields, as speculations suggest, in favor of drafting Caleb Williams at No. 1, this move could yield additional draft assets.
