Bears HC Matt Eerbflus was thrilled about this aspect in particular from his squad.
While the Chicago Bears were not able to pull off the upset victory in Minnesota, we still saw some great things from the team. Well, it looks like HC Matt Eberflus was very pleased to see how his team handle the adversity after falling behind early in the match.
Indeed, here is what Larry Mayer reported on Monday:
After allowing the Vikings to score TDs on each of their first three possessions, the Bears turned a 21-3 deficit into a 22-21 lead early in the fourth quarter by scoring 19 unanswered points on two touchdowns and two field goals.
"I'm really proud of the players the way they fought in the second half," Eberflus said. "Certainly showed some resiliency after being down in the first half."
Unfortunately, Minnesota rallied for a 29-22 victory, marching 75 yards on 17 plays, capped by Kirk Cousins' 1-yard TD on a quarterback sneak with 2:26 to play. The Vikings converted all five of their third-down plays on the winning drive.
Trailing by seven, the Bears took over at the own 25 with 2:26 to go. They reached their own 48, but the Vikings sealed the win when cornerback Cameron Dantzler snatched the ball from Smith-Marsette at the end of a 15-yard reception.
"My message to the playerswhich will be the message to the players coming up in my team meetingis that we have to finish and make plays down the stretch to win the game," Eberflus said. "And that doesn't mean special plays; you've just got to make the mundane plays and make sure that we execute in those moments. And then we'll have good results at the end of those moments."
