"The Chicago Bears made the first of many huge decisions yesterday with the franchise tagging of wide receiver Allen Robinson. It's a big offseason for the Bears as head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace sit on the final year of their contracts. The next question is.... who will throw Allen Robinson the ball?Chatter continues to point disgruntled Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, and while Peter King put out a huge report saying it would be impossible for the Bears to land Wilson, he's also the same guy who said the Bears had a 0% chance at landing Khalil Mack. Bears' insider Erik Lambert recently put together a thread on Twitter breaking down how the Wilson to Bears trade makes perfect sense and it's a real sense. Let's take a look at Lambert's amazing work and dot connecting:"The #Bears want him. That much is certain. Multiple sources including the few I have confirm it.Ryan Pace is willing to pay the hefty price tag. This isn't about what they do. It's about what Wilson and the Seahawks do.Everything out of Seattle is like a careful political game. The rift is real but neither side wants to come off looking like they caused the breakup.Wilson refuses to officially request a trade. The Seahawks are making it clear they aren't "shopping" him.Right now Seattle is debating whether they can get away with trading Wilson. From both logistical and image perspectives.Trading a seven-time Pro Bowler who just threw 40 TDs and went 12-4 will look awfully bad to the fans.Replacing him will be its own nightmare. Here are some things working in favor of the Bears:1. Wilson put them on his preferred list
2. Seattle has no 1st round picks in 2021 or 2022
3. Pete Carroll is a stubborn, old school coach
4. Wilson has family and friends in Chicago
5. Pace is willing to pay
The key factor is Wilson's ego.He wants to be turned loose. He wants to show everybody he is the best in the world. That he can put a team on his shoulders and lift them to greatness. It's not about money or a ring anymore. He has both. It's about legacy.Pete Carroll has the power in Seattle. Even at 70, he doesn't appear to be slowing down.Wilson realizes he could be stuck in that system for years to come.Hence why he pushed his case for changes. When they brushed him off? The status quo altered. In this context, Chicago makes perfect sense. He'd be treated like royalty from the jump. He'd have a coach with a QB-centric background. The Bears would cater to his every whim.If he elevated this QB-starved franchise to success? He becomes an instant deity. There is still a chance this ends in anticlimax.Seattle may get cold feet, bite the bullet and do what Wilson wants.Yet it feels like the egos involved won't let that happen. The Bears are guaranteed nothing, but they have a shot.A real shot."Absolutely amazing work by Erik Lambert, now it's on Ryan Pace to get it done!
