Brad Biggs reported that the Bears have placed OL Alex Leatherwood on NFI list per Matt Eberflus. Coach says he is out for at least 4 weeks.

Eberflus calls it «non-football illness» and says Leatherwood is not in the building. He will be out for at least 4 weeks.

This is not great news at all. Of course, the focus is truly shifted to Leatherwood's health. We can clearly make an educated guess that he is affected by something pretty significant if he is out for at least 4 weeks.

Leatherwood was claimed on the waivers by the Bears a few weeks ago. He was a first0round selection in 2021 by the Raiders. I know that he struggled a lot during his rookie season, but the potential clearly is there since he was a first-round draft pick no more than two years ago!

Ryan Poles seemed very excited to have him in Chicago a few days after his signature. Here is what he said back then:

«In terms of success with him here, I think we all believe in player development here, and we've put pieces in place to allow players to be their best selves,» Poles said. «So we're going to approach that in many different ways, and we're going to give him an opportunity to develop and grow. Forget the draft pick thing. That's over. So let's start from the ground floor. Let's build you up and take your time and whatever that is, we want to put him in the best position to succeed. [Offensive line coach] Chris Morgan and his staff and everyone around, from the weight room, we're going to give it everything we've got.»
