Bears rookie Dominique Robinson shares how he beat Trent Williams for a sack
Bears rookie EDGE Dominique Robinson played just 28 snaps, but the defensive end recorded 1.5 sacks, two pressures, and seven tackles in his debut. It was truly a dream start for him.
Robinson told Bear Report's Zack Pearson that, after watching film, he picked up on a tendency from Williams. Robinson said he saw that Williams would kick his left foot twice when it was a pass play. And Robinson was able to use it to his advantage.
Robinson was the standout performer for the Bears in their upset win, where he earned the highest grade from Pro Football Focus at 89.8. The exciting thing is Robinson remains a raw talent having only played the position for two years. The best is yet to come.
«A rookie is just a title,» Robinson said after the win. «I got drafted. I'm here to play football. I showed them that I can play football and I made the 53-man roster. So that's what I'm doing»
But that opening sack on Trey Lance gave the former dual-threat quarterback turned wide receiver turned defensive end a boost of confidence.
«Quick confidence,» Robinson said. «I was confident coming in, but after that, confidence boosted to the roof. At that point, I'm playing now.»
Drafted in the fifth round out of Miami of Ohio, Robinson is still early in his development as a pass rusher.
«It's just football,» Robinson said. «I'm just making plays. Honestly, I prayed. My prayers, man. Hustle hard, do everything I can, and when the play comes, let me make the play. Play came. I made the plays.»
