The Bears drafted Doug Plank in the 12th round in 1975, He played all 8 years with the Bears, and was the first rookie to lead in tackles. Buddy Ryan loved him for his hard-hitting mentality, so much so that he named the 46 defense after Plank's jersey number. Plank and Gary Fencik were dubbed "The Hit Men". Plank retired before the 85 Bears and played for the Chicago Blitz one season in 1984. After football Doug became a Burger King franchisee, opening 20 restaurants in 3 states over 20 years. Since 2001 he has worked as an analyst and real estate developer. He also coached the arena league Arizona Rattlers to 3 consecutive Arena Bowls. In 2008 he was with the Falcons as a seasonal assistant. In 09 it was with the Jets as an assistant defensive backfield coach. He then went on to coach for The Buckeyes, Philadelphia Soul and Orlando Predators.
