The Carolina Panthers are looking to shake things up this offseason, and they made a huge splash with a blockbuster trade that sent shockwaves through the NFL.

Bears Tried To Trade For These Two Superstars

In a move that caught everyone by surprise, the Panthers gave up a king's ransom of draft picks and talented players to acquire the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Chicago Bears.

The Panthers' bold move is a reflection of their determination to build a championship-caliber team. Giving up two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and star wideout D.J. Moore is a high price to pay, but it could pay off big time in the long run.

What's interesting about this trade is that it involved star players, which is not typical in these kinds of transactions. But the Bears' general manager, Ryan Poles, had a different vision, and he was willing to make some bold moves to get what he wanted.

The Athletic recently published a story with quotes from both Poles and Panthers GM Scott Fitterer explaining how this deal went down. One of the most intriguing aspects of the article was the players that the Panthers refused to part ways with during negotiations.

As Poles searched for the ideal trade, he had his sights set on Panthers' pass rusher Brian Burns, defensive tackle Derrick Brown, and Moore. All three players were first-round picks and highly valued by the Panthers organization. Eventually, Moore was the extra "one" that Carolina sent over, along with three first-round picks and two second-rounders.

Only time will tell if this trade was worth it for the Panthers. But one thing is for sure - they're not afraid to take risks and make bold moves to achieve their goals. If they can use their newfound draft capital to land some impact players, the Panthers could be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL for years to come.

"We couldn't get there with just picks," Fitterer said. "So we argued that D.J. was worth a 1, plus somebody else. We both agreed how valuable he would be for a young quarterback, to give him a proper evaluation."

Panthers General Manager Scott Fitterer revealed in an interview that pass rusher Brian Burns and defensive tackle Derrick Brown were the players the Panthers refused to let go during negotiations with the Bears. Fitterer emphasized that it would have been incredibly challenging to replace the two young, talented defenders, even with D.J. Moore being a key component of the team's offensive scheme.

There was also a contract factor that contributed to this decision. Both Brown and Burns are still on their rookie deals, making them affordable for the Panthers, while Moore inked a three-year extension just last offseason, putting a significant dent in their budget.

It's clear that the Panthers have a lot of faith in Burns and Brown, who have shown tremendous potential in their young careers. Burns has been a consistent threat on the edge, recording 16.5 sacks in his first two seasons, while Brown has been a disruptive force on the interior, racking up 83 tackles and eight sacks in his rookie campaign alone.

By keeping Burns and Brown, the Panthers are signaling their commitment to building a dominant defense that can compete with the best teams in the league. And while losing Moore is certainly a blow to their offense, the Panthers are hoping that their young defense can continue to grow and develop into a dominant force for years to come.

"There were certain players that we never really wanted to trade," Fitterer said. "It's so hard to replace a Derrick Brown or Brian Burns, a pass rusher (and) an interior, dominant young player on a (first) contract. D.J., we didn't want to move either. But it's a little bit easier to replace a receiver than it is a pass rusher or a three-tech."

As seen on - Panthers refused to part ways with these two players during trade talks with Bears
