It was reported a few months ago that center JC Tretter, the president of the NFLPA, was getting released by the Cleveland Browns.

This news was extremely surprising. Tretter is regarded as one of the best centers in all of football. He is still relatively young, at 31 and he has started 90 games in his career so far with the Packers and, most recently, the Browns.

Bears' GM Ryan Poles has been very quiet since the start of free agency. However, we knew he would be waiting for waves 2 and 3. Tretter could be part of those waves and he could provide excellent play for the Bears.

The current Bears offensive line is not horrendous, but it's not ideal. Here is a Tweet regarding the subject by Bears beat writer Jacob infante:

Tretter has been a very consistent graded pass protector and solid graded run blocker throughout his career as well. He is an accomplished veteran. I believe acquiring Tretter could go a long way toward improving the Bears' interior line performance, and provide some amazing leadership for the younger guys. This sounds great, right?
