In the previous season, Jones was the greenhorn, a fifth-round pick from Southern Utah. Swiftly scaling the depth chart during the offseason, he earned his place as the starting left tackle for Chicago in 2022, never missing a snap.
At present, Jones is channeling his energy into perfecting his left tackle skills, while simultaneously assisting first-round rookie right tackle Darnell Wright in navigating the complexities of the professional game.
Jones acknowledged his new role during an interview on ESPN 1000's Waddle & Silvy. "There's a certain shift in my responsibilities," Jones stated. "Clearly, with Darnell Wright being a first-round pick, I'm trying to lend him a hand during these offseason OTAs. Meanwhile, I've got a ton of self-improvement to focus on."
Jones underscored the importance of helping Wright get acclimated to the pace of the game as a rookie. He remembered his own initial challenges, recalling how the sheer speed and power of NFL edge rushers were initially overwhelming.
In Jones' opinion, the secret to success for Wright lies in getting a firm grip on the rhythm of the game, enhancing his physical prowess, and developing his endurance - all essential traits for a durable starting tackle for the Bears.
