The Chicago Bears and general manager Ryan Pace were finally back on the clock on Saturday afternoon. After having only two picks for the first two days Pace decided to stick with the defensive side of the ball as he selected Tulsa DE Trevis Gipson at #155. Walterfootball has Gipson ranked #19th overall at the DE position. "Gipson had a solid 2019 season rushing the passer, collecting eight sacks, two forced fumbles and 49 tackles. As a junior, he had 46 tackles, five forced fumbles and a pass batted. Gipson earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl, but was not a star in Mobile."
From NFL.com:"Gipson comes from a family of athletes; his father played basketball at Texas, his mother ran track at North Texas and his brother played basketball professionally in Finland. Gipson did not see the field too often as a redshirt freshman (eight tackles, one sack in 13 games) and sophomore (11 tackles, one forced fumble) but stepped up his game in 2018. He started all 12 games for the Golden Hurricanes as a junior, racking up 46 tackles, nine for loss, and four sacks while tying for second in the FBS with five forced fumbles. Gipson was even more productive as a senior, garnering first-team All-American Athletic Conference accolades by leading Tulsa with 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks among his 49 total stops (also posting two forced fumbles in 12 games with 11 starts)."
