Dwayne Haskins' Estate Settles with Truck Driver and Affiliated Parties Involved in Fatal Highway Accident
The estate of late quarterback Dwayne Haskins has come to a settlement agreement with the driver, owner, and broker of the dump truck involved in his tragic death last year. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, according to the attorney representing Haskins' widow, Kalabrya Haskins.
Dwayne Haskins, a former Ohio State star and NFL player for the Washington Commanders and Pittsburgh Steelers, was fatally struck by a dump truck while walking along a South Florida highway last April at the age of 24.
A lawsuit filed by Haskins' family in March accused the truck driver of excessive speed, reckless driving, and operating an overloaded vehicle. The lawsuit also targeted the owner of the truck and his company, and alleged negligence on the part of the Florida Department of Transportation, the rental car company, and the contractor responsible for road signage along the I-595.
Attorney Rick Ellsley, representing Kalabrya Haskins, has confirmed settlements with "various other parties," while a case against multiple remaining defendants continues in the Broward County Circuit Court.
The lawsuit also contends that Haskins was a victim of "blackmail and conspiracy" and was drugged the night of his death. As a result, two restaurants, a golf course driving range, and a hotel have been named as defendants in the case.
