Yates revealed that Landry was among the wide receivers that the Indianapolis Colts evaluated during a workout held on Tuesday. Landry, who is 31 years old, had a stint with the New Orleans Saints during the 2022 season and has remained unsigned since then.
The Colts are eager to have their star wide receiver, Michael Pittman Jr., return to action for their Week 16 road game against the Atlanta Falcons, pending his clearance from concussion protocol. Pittman Jr. left a previous game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after sustaining a severe hit from safety Damontae Kazee, who was subsequently suspended for the remainder of the regular season.
In the event that Pittman Jr. is unable to play, the Colts are seeking additional wide receiver depth. As noted by Yates, they have already added Jaydon Mickens to their roster. The potential addition of the former Miami Dolphins' standout, Jarvis Landry, is currently under consideration.
Landry had an impressive four-year tenure with the Dolphins, during which he recorded two 1,000-yard seasons. In the 2018 offseason, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns, where he exceeded 800 receiving yards on three occasions and played a key role in ending the Browns' 18-year playoff drought in 2020.
However, Landry's 2022 season with the New Orleans Saints was marked by injuries and inconsistent performance. He was limited to just nine games and finished the season with 25 receptions for 272 yards and one touchdown.
Currently, the Colts hold an 8-6 record and are tied with the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars for first place in the AFC South.
