The Kansas City Chiefs are grieving the loss of a true legend this week. Ed Budde, renowned as one of the American Football League's greatest offensive linemen and a distinguished member of the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 83.

Ed Budde's daughter has confirmed that her father peacefully departed in his sleep on Tuesday morning, with his loving wife, Carolyn, of 65 years by his side.

Back in 1963, Budde was a first-round pick from Michigan State, drafted simultaneously by the AFL's Chiefs and the NFL's Eagles. Ultimately, he chose to join the Chiefs. Over an incredible 14-season tenure from 1963 to 1976, this left guard played for Kansas City, making him one of the franchise's longest-tenured players, matched by only one other individual. Budde earned accolades such as four All-AFL team selections, five AFL All-Star Game appearances, two Pro Bowl selections, and a place on the AFL All-Time Team.

Notably, Budde also played a crucial role in securing a Super Bowl victory for the Chiefs during Super Bowl IV, contributing to a 151-yard rushing performance on that memorable day. His remarkable contributions to the team led to his induction into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame, an honor well-deserved.

In 1980, the Chiefs continued the Budde legacy by selecting Ed Budde's son, Brad Budde, in the first round of the NFL Draft. Brad went on to start in 79 games for the Chiefs from 1980 to 1986, solidifying the family's enduring connection with the franchise.
