Former San Francisco 49ers Wide Receiver John Isenbarger Passes Away at 76

John Isenbarger, who was drafted by the team in 1970, has sadly passed away at the age of 76, as confirmed by his alma mater.

"Indiana University mourns the loss of All-American & IU Hall of Famer John Isenbarger," the school announced in a brief statement on Thursday night. Indiana University also highlighted Isenbarger's numerous achievements during his illustrious college career.

Isenbarger excelled as a tailback and punter during his college years, contributing to Indiana's success in the Big Ten Co-Championship and Rose Bowl in 1967. He was recognized as Indiana's Most Valuable Player in 1969 and received various accolades including All-American honors in 1967 and 1969. Isenbarger also set records for rushing yards during his time with the Hoosiers.

After college, Isenbarger transitioned to the wide receiver position during his tenure with the San Francisco 49ers. Despite playing in a different role, he remained dedicated to the team for his entire four-year career, amassing 370 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Total Pro Sports extends heartfelt condolences to Isenbarger's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, John Isenbarger. 1947-2024.
