Young Eric was discovered at an intersection, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was swiftly transported to the hospital, but despite all efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The autopsy report from the Lucas County Coroner's Office disclosed that Eric Scott Jr. died due to two gunshot wounds to the torso. His untimely death has been officially classified as a homicide.

The superintendent of Springfield High School, where Eric Scott was a junior student and a football player, issued a heartfelt statement:
"Our district is mourning the tragic loss of SHS junior student Eric Scott Jr. EJ was an important part of our school community and football program. He will be remembered for his energetic, joyful spirit as well as his passion for the game of football. Our deepest condolences to EJ and his family at this time," expressed Springfield Local Schools.
Eric Scott was a cornerback for the Springfield High School Blue Devils football team, which has faced a challenging season with a 2-8 record and 0-5 in the conference. Despite a recent two-game winning streak, the Blue Devils ended up losing seven consecutive matches. The team's last .500 record was in the 2019-2020 season when they finished 5-5, preceded by a 7-4 record the year before.
