As reported by Stephen Tsai from the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Jones, erstwhile coach for both the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the Atlanta Falcons, was arrested at approximately 9:28 PM. He subsequently posted a $500 bail to secure his release. Jones kept his comments brief following the incident, stating, "I was speeding, and got stopped. I was coming from eating dinner. That's all I need to say right now."
Jones, currently flexing his strategic skills as the offensive coordinator for the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons, has a long and storied career in football coaching. He led the Falcons' coaching staff from 1994 to 1996, achieving a win-loss record of 19-29.
Jones' journey took him next to the San Diego Chargers as their quarterbacks head coach. He temporarily took over the reins after Kevin Gilbride was dismissed, recording a 3-7 record during this 10-game stint.
He then took up the mantle of the head coach at the University of Hawaii in 1999. During his nine-year tenure with the Rainbow Warriors, Jones proudly boasted a 76-41-0 record, piloting the team to three Hawaii Bowl victories.
The Southern Methodist University Mustangs was his next port of call in 2008. Over several seasons, he amassed a 36-43-0 record, steering the team to victories at the BBVA Compass Bowl and the Hawaii Bowl.
Jones has seen action in the Canadian Football League as well, helming the Hamilton Tiger-Cats between 2017 and 2018. Following the league's resurgence, he took up the coaching role for the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL in 2020. His recent arrest marks a regrettable episode in the career of this respected football figure.
