According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are set to sign former Seattle Seahawks running back Travis Homer to a two-year deal worth up to $4.5 million.

This acquisition comes after the departure of former Bears running back David Montgomery, who recently signed with divisional rivals, the Detroit Lions. The addition of Homer provides the Bears with some much-needed depth at the running back position.

Homer was drafted by the Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and has played in 24 games over the past two seasons. He has mostly been used as a backup running back and has rushed for 167 yards on 41 carries, while also contributing on special teams.

Overall, the addition of Homer is a solid move by the Bears as they aim to fill the void left by Montgomery's departure. With a two-year deal, the team will have some time to evaluate his potential and determine his long-term fit with the team.

Travis Homer, a 24-year-old product of the University of Miami, was selected in the sixth round (204th overall) by the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft. Despite appearing in 49 games, he has just two starts and a limited professional track record, with only 135 touches, 917 scrimmage yards, and three touchdowns.

However, Homer has kick return experience, returning 12 kicks for 291 yards in 2020, and extensive special teams experience, participating in at least 44% of the phase's snaps in all four of his years in the NFL.

It remains to be seen whether Homer can fill the veteran running back void that the Bears were reportedly seeking earlier in the offseason. This move may signal a challenge to rising second-year back Trestan Ebner. Nonetheless, the Bears gain a fresh body for their backfield, which is always a valuable asset.
