Cairo Santos has clinched the title of NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November.
The Bears' kicker showcased an impressive performance by converting 12 of 14 field goal attempts and going a perfect 5 for 5 on extra points throughout four November games. Notably, he successfully nailed all 3 of his field goals from distances of at least 50 yards.
This seasoned NFL veteran, with a decade of experience under his belt, wrapped up the month with a stellar showing, delivering four crucial field goals on Monday night. The highlight was a 30-yarder with only 10 seconds left on the clock, propelling the Bears to a thrilling 12-10 comeback victory against the Vikings in Minnesota. Earlier in the same game, he equaled his career best by splitting the uprights with a 55-yarder.
On November 9th, Santos displayed his accuracy by making all 3 of his field goal attempts, including an impressive 54-yarder, in a 16-13 win over the Carolina Panthers at Soldier Field.
Santos achieved a remarkable milestone by nailing field goals from distances of 50 yards or more in three consecutive games, a first in his career. From this range, he's been incredibly efficient, hitting 10 of 11 attempts since the start of the previous season, compared to just 10 of 24 over his first eight years.
Santos holds the distinction of being the most precise kicker in Bears history, boasting an impressive 90.2 percent success rate on his field goal attempts (101 of 112). In the current season, he has maintained an outstanding accuracy rate of 92.0 percent, making 23 of 25 attempts.
This marks Santos's third Player of the Month award, including two during his tenure with the Bears. His previous honor came in December 2020 when he went a perfect 9 for 9 on field goals in four games, playing a pivotal role in the Bears securing three consecutive victories and positioning themselves for a wild card playoff berth.
Notably, Santos concluded the 2020 regular season on an incredible streak, successfully converting his last 27 field goal attempts, surpassing Robbie Gould's Bears record of 26 consecutive makes set in 2005-06.
