Sewell is a hard-hitting, pass-rushing linebacker who excels when playing between the tackles. However, he struggles in pass coverage and lacks the range needed for modern defenses. In his three seasons with the Ducks, Sewell made 31 starts and recorded 215 tackles, 19.5 tackles-for-loss, 7.5 sacks, 11 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions.
Despite lacking speed, Sewell is a solid athlete who explodes downhill when he trusts his instincts. Running backs will have to be wary of him. In fact, he's often compared to Jack Sanborn and has been described as a perfect fit for the Bears.
Sewell was a Pac-12 All-Conference second team selection as a sophomore in 2022 and was named to the Phil Steele All-Pac-12 first team. He was also a Polynesian College Football Player of the Year finalist and a Butkus Award semifinalist. Last season, he was third on the Oregon team with 56 total tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks, four pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble return.
Sewell's older brother, Penei, is an offensive lineman for the Detroit Lions. While Noah is a Malaeimi, American Samoa native, he attended Orem High School in Utah and was the consensus No. 1 player in the state. As a senior, he led his football team to the Utah 5A State Championship and was named the 2019 Utah Valley Football Player of the Year.
Bears fans should keep an eye on Sewell, who could immediately make an impact on special teams, just like Sanborn did. At 6-2 and 253 pounds, Sewell has the potential to be a dominant force on the Bears' defense, and he fits the mold of what the team looks for in a linebacker.
