Bears Safety Eddie Jackson Skips Thursday Practice at Halas Hall

Persistent foot concerns have been plaguing Eddie Jackson, with the issue resurfacing over the past month. Last season, a Lisfranc injury in his left foot prematurely ended his campaign, forcing him out for the last five matches of 2022. While no surgery was needed and he made a full recovery by spring, a similar incident occurred in a Week 2 game against the Buccaneers this year.

Post-injury, Jackson was sidelined for three subsequent games. He made a return in the recent game against the Vikings but had to step out in the middle and didn't reappear. Although he managed limited practice on Wednesday, he was notably absent during Thursday's open session.

Coach Matt Eberflus commented that Jackson could have persisted in Sunday's game if the situation demanded. He was expected to attend this week's practice. Eberflus said, "We'll assess the situation. He's expected to do individual exercises and perhaps more during practice. It unexpectedly flared up, so we'll monitor his progress throughout the week."

In Jackson's absence, Elijah Hicks has stepped up, starting in three matches.

Other team updates include non-participants in Thursday's practice: QB Justin Fields (thumb), RG Nate Davis (ankle), RB Roschon Johnson (concussion), RT Darnell Wright (shoulder), OL Dan Feeney (knee), and CB Terell Smith (illness). Veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis opted for an extra rest day.

Wright's limited involvement the previous day raises concerns about his availability. The Bears might face a challenge with both their primary tackles potentially out this week.

On a brighter note, RB Travis Homer (hamstring) and DE Yannick Ngakoue (back) resumed full practice.

Davis is unlikely to feature in the upcoming Las Vegas game. Fields is categorized as "doubtful," leading to backup Tyson Bagent taking reps with the main offensive unit during practice. Johnson, having missed the previous game due to a concussion from the Washington match, might again be unavailable. With him and Khalil Herbert (currently on injured reserve) out, RB D'Onta Foreman might spearhead the attack once more this week.
