Last season was not the finest hour for the Chicago Bears, to say the least. A painful 3-14 record was met with understanding sighs as their struggles weren't entirely unanticipated. Chicago's General Manager, Ryan Poles, decided on a strategy reset, a move that saw him drastically overhaul the team's roster, parting ways with high-cost contracts and seasoned veterans. Poles' vision was clear: to build a team that reflects his philosophy, pivoting towards a youth-oriented approach, concentrating on the draft, and only occasionally dipping into free agency for younger prospects. With a second off-season now wrapped up, the hopes are high for a promising 2023.

The current Chicago Bears roster presents a dynamic mix of youthful exuberance, speed, and athletic prowess. While talking about playoff dreams might feel a bit hasty, it's challenging to overlook this team making a substantial leap in the win-loss tally. With time, key players are likely to get acclimated to both the offensive and defensive game plans and have breakout seasons. Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report echoed this sentiment with an even bolder prediction, pointing to a Bear with the potential to make the All-Pro lineup.

Enter Tremaine Edmunds, the team's latest recruit.

"Even though Edmunds didn't garner any major accolades over the past two seasons, he has shown notable progress in pass coverage. He finished last season with a commendable 69.9 passer rating, the best in his career, without conceding a single touchdown.

Following his off-season transfer to the Chicago Bears, Edmunds is slated to work closely with Head Coach Matt Eberflus and Defensive Coordinator Alan Williams.

In his time as a defensive coordinator, Eberflus mentored Shaquille Leonard, who made it to the All-Pro roster during his rookie year. Additionally, the former Indianapolis Colts play-caller contributed to developing linebackers Bobby Okereke and Anthony Walker Jr. into top-tier starters.

The Colts selected Okereke and Walker in the third and fifth rounds respectively. Given Eberflus' track record with developing middle-round picks into quality starters, it is expected that he can mold Edmunds, a first-round pick in 2018, into a star player."

The Chicago Bears management sees a gold mine of untapped potential in Edmunds. With an illustrious career to date, Edmunds' abilities are undeniable. The linebacker has two Pro Bowls to his name from his time with the Buffalo Bills and played a pivotal role in their defense, helping them to rank first or second in points allowed in three of the last four seasons. At a youthful 24, Edmunds is believed to have the room to grow under the guidance of Eberflus, a former linebacker, and linebacker coach. Eberflus' Tampa-2 defensive system is considered particularly conducive to linebackers, a claim supported by Brian Urlacher's career peak under the same system in the mid-2000s.

Throughout his coaching tenure, Eberflus has drawn out the best performances from many middle linebackers. What makes Edmunds exciting is that he boasts more talent than most, if not all, of them. Edmunds' unique combination of a towering 6'5" frame and brisk 4.5 speed make him a formidable force, capable of both engaging offensive linemen and dropping into coverage. His 34-inch reach adds another layer of difficulty for opponents aiming to throw over or around him. Assuming Edmunds integrates seamlessly into this defensive setup, an All-Pro nomination doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility.
