An older video featuring Colin Cowherd discussing Caleb Williams' potential draft preferences, particularly regarding the Chicago Bears, recently resurfaced and gained attention. In the video, Cowherd mentioned that Williams and his camp, led by his father, had reservations about whether the USC quarterback would thrive in a favorable environment if drafted by the Bears.
This led to some Bears fans expressing frustration towards the USC quarterback. In response, Cowherd revealed that he had been contacted by individuals close to Williams and provided clarification on the situation. According to Cowherd, Caleb Williams and his camp no longer hold reservations about being drafted by the Bears. Cowherd stated:
"I received a call from the Caleb Williams camp, and they expressed their concerns, Colin, we don't want to be portrayed as anti-Chicago or anti-Bears. They emphasized that they do not want to go to a city that lacks passion for football. Chicago cares; they're passionate, loud, and they care about their team. They acknowledged that there is a pathway to success in Chicago, citing the Houston Texans as an example with a defensive coach, offensive weapons, cap space, and good draft picks, including a second-round pick. They also mentioned the availability of several talented receivers."
The first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft was originally held by the Carolina Panthers but was traded to the Chicago Bears last year, making Williams a likely candidate to be selected by the Bears as Justin Fields' replacement.
However, Cowherd noted that despite the clarification, Caleb Williams' camp still harbors some private concerns about the Bears. He pointed out that the Bears have not been a consistently successful franchise for an extended period and raised questions about the stability of head coach Matt Eberflus, suggesting he could be fired next season. Additionally, not having an offensive-minded head coach at the start of Williams' NFL career might not be seen as advantageous for the young quarterback.
