His long-standing girlfriend, Tracey Edmonds, shared the latest on his health status, posting a pre-surgery snapshot featuring herself, Colorado athletic trainer Lauren Askevold, and Deion Sanders just before his second operation for blood clots on Thursday.
Sanders had previously undergone a surgical procedure in June to address blood clot issues in his left leg. In a video on his YouTube channel, he had shared that he'd need multiple surgeries to clear both blood clots and enhance blood flow in his legs.
Sanders' health has been a topic of concern since his tenure at Jackson State when, in an effort to improve circulation problems, doctors had to amputate two of his toes from his left foot in 2021 while he was still coaching there.
Last month, he assured his fans that there are no current plans for foot amputation. "There's no talk of amputation," Sanders said in a video update. "The doctor was just telling me worst comes to worst, that [amputating the foot] was gonna happen. But I believe in staying right so we never have to take that left."
As a NFL Hall of Famer, Sanders, right after his appointment, made it clear to his team players that they could choose to stay or enter the transfer portal, as he was all set to bring his unique approach to the game. Since then, over 55 players from the Colorado team have opted for the transfer portal.
The Colorado team is set to hit the road, taking on the TCU Horned Frogs in Texas, for the commencement of their 2023-24 regular season on September 2.
