After being drafted by the Raiders in 2014, QB Derek Carr has spent his entire career with them, until now. After 9 seasons with the team, Carr was released, and is now with the New Orleans Saints.

Carr, who once said that he would rather retire then play for another team, was released after the 2022 season.

Even after being a dedicated member to this organization, drama appeared, especially when he was benched, which caused him to step away from the team.

After a pretty bad game in week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, The Raiders decided to bench Carr and replace him with Jarrett Stidham for the rest of the season. This obviously made Carr very upset, which then led to him step away, creating an unpleasant relationship between the organization and him.

In an interview with Fresno Bee's Anthony Galaviz, Carr opened up his benching and release. He told Anthony that once he was benched, it became clear to him that it was time to move on. The relationship broke right there, and can never been fixed. He also mentioned how the Raiders made his wife cry, which was the last straw for him:

"Once they made my wife cry, that was pretty much over. Once they made her cry, that was out"
- Carr said

Carr goes on to explain how upset he still is with the team, as after 9 years with an organization he felt hurt by them. Carr explains:

"I was, for lack of a better term, I was very upset, I was mad. You spend nine years in a place, you have all the records and you can play at a high level and for something to get in the way, whether it was whatever reason, money related or whatever, injury related, I would have said I don't even want the money, just to play two more times in front of our fans. I didn't get that opportunity. So, it definitely lit a fire inside me to keep going"

Going into the 2023 season, Carr is excited to begin new chapter with the Saints, but he will always cheer for his former teammates.
