Carr, who spent nine seasons with the Raiders, was let go by the team just a year after signing a three-year contract extension. He quickly found a new team, signing a four-year, $150 million deal with the New Orleans Saints.
Despite the abrupt end to his time in Las Vegas, Carr holds no animosity toward his former team. Speaking to Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Carr expressed his well-wishes for the Raiders after Thursday's practice:
"I have no hard feelings toward any of my guys. I want them to succeed because I know when you don't succeed, it's tough. It's hard on your family, it's hard on everyone, and I don't want that for my friends.
"I truly wish the Raiders the best. Those are my friends. I hope they win and do great, but I'm in New Orleans now, and I'm going to give them everything I have with a new energy that I'm excited to bring."
Carr, now 32, had a challenging time adapting to the offense of new head coach Josh McDaniels, completing only 60.8% of his passes (his second-lowest single-season mark) for 3,522 yards with 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
After parting ways with Carr, the Raiders brought in former San Francisco 49ers starter Jimmy Garoppolo on a three-year deal. Garoppolo had previously spent three and a half seasons with McDaniels in New England (2014 to 2017) before being traded to San Francisco ahead of the 2017 deadline.
The Saints, opting against a rebuild, decided to make a win-now move by signing Carr to a hefty four-year contract. This move reunites Carr with Dennis Allen, who coached him for four games in Oakland in 2014 before being replaced by Tony Sparano.
Carr and the Saints will kick off their 2023 campaign with a home game against the Tennessee Titans at the Caesars Superdome on September 10.
