Don't forget about this defensive lineman!
Jeremiah Attaochu was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. After some time with multiple other teams, Attaochu signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears on March 23, 2021. However, he suffered a torn pec in Week 5 and was placed on injury reserve on October 13, 2021.
Well, it looks like he likes the simplicity of the system. Jeremiah Attaochu was brought in to play a pass-rushing outside linebacker role last offseason. A year later, Attaochu finds himself re-visiting a position he hasn't been in for quite some time:
"For sure, I'm definitely excited about this scheme," Attaochu said. "I get to do one job and that's get off the ball, get in a track stance and use my athleticism.
"Being very versatile most of my career, standing up, dropping, I think it takes the thinking out it for a guy with superior athleticism. So a guy that can get off the ball before everybody else, beat the O-lineman out of his stance, use my quickness, use my speed, so I definitely fit in very well."
"It makes my job easier from anything I've had to do in the NFL," Attaochu said. "So, good."
The Bears brought Attaochu here last year as the key third pass rusher, someone who could be productive while Mack and Robert Quinn took a series or two off.
However, he will have to work very hard to be able to stay on the 53-man roster in 2022. In fact, the Bears could save $3.1 million in cap space by cutting Attaochu. But my guess is that they'll use him in a reserve role. Or perhaps the team could move him later in the summer if another team needs pass-rushing help. For now, Attaochu represents good depth at a position where you can never have too many players.
