Eberflus expresses confidence in Fields and Bears for Week 1 opener.
After an intense training camp and a series of three preseason games, Coach Matt Eberflus of the Bears is optimistic that quarterback Justin Fields and the team are geared up for the regular season opener against the Packers on September 10.
"We're enthusiastic about where we're headed," Eberflus commented post the preseason conclusion against the Bills. "We have accomplished a lot this offseason. However, there's still a significant amount of groundwork ahead. With two upcoming practices this week and a few more gearing up for the game, we're confident in Fields' progress."
In the Bears' preseason, Fields had a limited playtime but managed to complete 5 out of 9 passes for 180 yards, recording two touchdowns, zero turnovers, and a passer rating of 140.1. He also contributed 16 yards over three runs. Fields, echoing his coach's sentiments, expressed readiness for the challenge against Green Bay. "After the whirlwind of the past weeks, our primary focus is on continuous improvement. With this approach, I'm convinced we're on track for Week 1," Fields shared.
Fields, who emerged as a dynamic asset for the team last season, outlined his objectives for the upcoming 2023 season when questioned post the preseason finale. He stated, "Reaching the playoffs tops the list, giving us a shot at the Super Bowl. Secondly, I aim to uplift my team as the best leader, motivating everyone to exceed their limits. Lastly, the goal is simple � play, win, and relish every moment."
An enhanced Bears' defense will bolster Fields' efforts. The defense showcased their prowess by securing six takeaways in the home preseason matches. Fields expressed his expectations of frequent takeaways and said, "Having a robust defense is a boon. It not only facilitates good field positions but also eases the offensive job. Their presence is invaluable, and it's exhilarating to practice and compete alongside them."
