The mock drafts have been rolling out for months now, but this is the time of year when they become especially interesting, as the entire draft order has been set and teams are beginning to look ahead as they put together their 2023 rosters.
ESPN's Todd McShay has always been one of the biggest names in the mock draft game, and his latest mock should catch the attention of many. That's because it includes a monster trade proposal at the top of this year's draft. It's no secret that the Chicago Bears are looking to trade away their first-overall pick, and McShay believes that the Indianapolis Colts will go out and get it in an effort to secure the signal-caller of their choosing.
As for the Bears' return in the blockbuster deal, it's hard to imagine them being able to pass up this type of offer. Via ESPN:
The return could come down to just how desperate the QB-needy teams get and how much they fall in love with a specific passer. But I'd expect the Bears to receive something in the ballpark of the No. 4 pick, a second-rounder (No. 35), a fifth-rounder, and maybe even an additional Round 1 selection in 2024. The best part of all for Bears fans is McShay believes that Chicago will still get the player they want (Georgia DT Jalen Carter) with the fourth-overall pickmeaning they would still get the man that they'd likely have taken first-overall, while also netting themselves an extra second- and fifth-round pick in 2023, along with a first-rounder in 2024.
As for the Colts, McShay believes they'll leapfrog the Houston Texans and snag Alabama Crimson Tide star quarterback Bryce Youngleaving the Texans to settle for C.J. Stroud, which isn't a bad consolation prize at all. As for the rest of McShay's top five, after Young and Stroud go first and second, respectively, he sees Will Anderson Jr. falling to the Cardinals at third overall, the aforementioned Carter going to Chicago at no. 4, and the Seahawks taking Tyree Wilson in the fifth spot.
