While the Bears currently hold the No. 1 overall pick, they don't have another selection until the end of Round 2, making it unlikely for Fields and Smith-Njigba to join forces in Chicago. Nevertheless, Smith-Njigba believes in his connection with Fields and said that starting his career alongside his good friend would mean a lot to him.
The Bears' best chance of landing Smith-Njigba would be trading back to No. 9 with the Carolina Panthers or getting the No. 2 and No. 12 picks from the Houston Texans in exchange for the top selection. If the Bears can't find a pick in the 10-20 range, Smith-Njigba's NFL journey won't start in Chicago, but he believes the Green Bay Packers would be a good fit for him.
Regardless, the Bears' plan is to rebuild the trenches and provide Fields with the support he needs to flourish. Fields hopes Smith-Njigba can be a focal point of the new-and-improved supporting cast. It's up to Poles to make the dream of two Buckeyes playing together a reality in Chicago.
