Buffalo Bills Bolster Pass Rush with Leonard Floyd Signing

In their ongoing efforts to strengthen their pass rush, the Buffalo Bills have recently reached an agreement with veteran linebacker Leonard Floyd on a one-year contract, according to a source close to the situation. This move comes after the Bills decided not to address their defensive line during this year's draft.

Earlier this year, the Bills secured the services of defensive tackle Poona Ford on a one-year, $2.25 million deal, with $1.5 million guaranteed. Additionally, the team made sure to lock in defensive tackle Ed Oliver for the long term, agreeing to a four-year, $68 million extension with $45 million guaranteed just last Saturday.

The addition of Floyd, who is 30 years old, brings a wealth of experience to the Bills' pass-rushing unit. He reunites with his former Los Angeles Rams teammate Von Miller, who is currently recovering from a major right ACL injury sustained last Thanksgiving. Miller's availability for the start of the season remains uncertain, given the typical nine-month recovery timeframe.

The Bills have made significant investments in the pass-rushing position in recent drafts. A.J. Epenesa and Boogie Basham, both second-round picks in 2020 and 2021 respectively, as well as Greg Rousseau, a first-round pick in 2021, join the fold. These young talents, combined with the addition of Floyd, form a formidable group that promises to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Floyd became available for signing after being released by the Los Angeles Rams in March. Despite their attempts to find a trade partner for the veteran outside linebacker, the Rams were unable to secure a deal.

During his three seasons with the Rams, Floyd showcased his prowess by accumulating 29 sacks, two forced fumbles, and even an interception. Impressively, he managed to record at least nine sacks per season, with his best performance coming in 2020, his first year in Los Angeles, where he achieved a career-high 10.5 sacks.

Selected as the ninth overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2016 draft, Floyd's time with the team came to an end prior to the 2020 season, despite having his rookie contract's fifth-year option exercised.

With 47.5 sacks, 103 quarterback hits, and 338 tackles over his seven-year career, Floyd brings a proven track record and an undeniable impact to the Buffalo Bills' pass-rushing unit. His addition to the team's defensive arsenal will undoubtedly make them a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season.
