In 2019, following an impressive University football career in Canada, defensive lineman Mathieu Betts declared for the NFL draft.

Though he was not selected in the draft, Betts signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent.

Just a few days after signing with the Bears, Betts was selected 3rd overall in the CFL draft by the Edmonton Eskimos. Due to him being under contract with the Bears at the time, he remained in Chicago.

However, ahead of the regular season, Betts was released by the Bears along with many other players who didn't make the final cut.

Just a few days after being released by the Bears, Betts came back to Canada and officially joined the Eskimos.

After a few solid seasons in Edmonton, Betts became a free agent and signed with the B.C Lions. He ended the 2022 season on a good note, but ended the 2023 season as a star.

This past season with the B.C Lions, Betts was selected as a CFL West All-Star and a CFL All-Star, along with being awarded with the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award.

Following this standout season, Betts went to try out for the Detroit Lions in hoping of making a return to the NFL.

Now, the Lions have officially signed Betts and he will once again return to the NFL:
