"Fields has a better arm than Jalen Hurts, he's faster, more explosive, and has a better running ability," Jones stated. "But he doesn't have A.J. Brown, De'Vonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, that offensive line, or Miles Sanders, like Hurts did last year."
Jones pointed to Fields' impressive numbers, "If you look at the stats - 22 touchdowns, 3,700 yards - he's an MVP candidate."
Fields is poised for a standout season with the Bears, who made significant additions to their roster through trades, free agency, and the draft. These moves have led to growing expectations that Fields will excel in the coming season.
Last year, Fields' running prowess was evident, as he racked up the second-most single-season rushing yards for a quarterback in NFL history (1,143), along with eight rushing touchdowns and multiple runs over 50 yards. His agility in the pocket and elusiveness in open space were on full display.
However, Fields' passing game has faced criticism. He has yet to surpass 2,300 passing yards in a season, his career completion percentage hovers below 60%, and questions about his decision-making and footwork arose following last season.
Jones, however, contends that Hurts was carried by the Eagles' elite supporting cast, including Brown, Smith, Goedert, and Sanders, as well as their seventh-ranked defense. In Jones' opinion, this is why Hurts shouldn't be considered superior to Fields.
As Jones asserted, "Justin Fields is more talented at the quarterback position than Jalen Hurts." With a bolstered roster, the stage is set for Fields to live up to the growing hype.
