After this extension was finalized, former NFL player Clay Harbor took to Twitter to share his thoughts:
As read in the tweet, Harbor believes that Sweat is being overpaid by the Bears, and is not a huge fan of this deal.
Sweat was eyeing this deal, as if no deal was made by the time the 2023 season ended, he would be able to leave Chicago and explore the free agency market.
The Bears traded away their 2nd round pick in exchange for him, so if they let him leave after this season, then this trade would be a bust.
The issues that seem to alarm Harbor is the fact that Sweat has never had a double digit sack season in his career, so he was surprised to see Sweat getting so much money.
I see this extension as a good move, as Sweat is currently on the rise with his career, and I believe that he will continue to improve. Though he has yet to reach over 9 sacks in a season this far, I see that changing soon. He is a healthy player who is currently having a solid year so far. He is still young and has many years ahead of him.
