In early January, Hillis was hospitalized after saving his two children and two adults from drowning in Pensacola, Florida. Hillis was in critical condition and had to spend nearly three weeks in the hospital before getting released. In a positive update, Hillis announced that there were no "worries" or "concerns" after being released from the hospital, and that he should make a full recovery. Hillis also expressed gratitude for the prayers and support he received.
The former Arkansas star played in the NFL from 2008 to 2014. He was named the cover athlete for the "Madden NFL 12" video game franchise after a career year for the Cleveland Browns in which he rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns. Hillis also played for the Denver Broncos (2009 to 2010), Kansas City Chiefs (2012), and New York Giants (2013 to 2014). For his career, the Arkansas product rushed for 2,832 yards and 23 touchdowns in 81 games.
