The New York Jets have emerged as a potential destination for Rodgers, but former Giants running back Tiki Barber has raised doubts about his ability to handle the New York media should he be traded there.
During a segment on WFAN's Tiki and Tierney show, Barber expressed concerns that Rodgers' sensitivity to criticism would not bode well for him in New York. «If he is that sensitive that he gets upset that people, reporters, opinion-makers, influencers, whoever, want to talk about him, he is going to struggle in New York. And I don't know if it's the right fit for him,» Barber said.
Barber further added, «If Aaron Rodgers doesn't want people talking about him, talking about his offseason, talking about his personal life, talking about all these things that are going on with Aaron Rodgers, he needs to stop talking.» Barber spent his entire 10-year playing career with the Giants from 1997-2006.
Barber also commented on Rodgers' plan to experience a four-day darkness retreat. He said, «When you go, and you do something that feels odd to normal societywhich is going to sit in a cabin in the woods for four days in complete sensory isolation, [the media is] gonna talk about it. You have to. It's our job too. And for him to get offended by that, he's not going to handle the intensity of the New York mediascapethat's obviously traditional media, social, and everything elseif he's here.»
Despite the skepticism, the Jets are reportedly interested in acquiring Rodgers. Former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett now serves as the Jets' offensive coordinator, and the team has reached out to the Packers to explore the possibility of a trade. If a deal were to happen, Rodgers would follow in the footsteps of Brett Favre, who also played for the Jets in the latter part of his career.
