There are three potential outcomes for the four-time league MVP: retirement, a return to Green Bay, or a trade to another team. Rodgers recently completed a «darkness retreat», hoping it would influence his decision about the future.
Max Dible, at Heavy Sports, suggested an intriguing trade proposal in which the Packers would trade their legendary player to his home state team, the San Francisco 49ers:
"The 49ers will need a higher-end pick if they hope to land Rodgers, which means the team would probably need to deal Lance to a franchise like the Carolina Panthers that would be likely to part with its second-round selection (No. 39 overall) for a shot to mould the inexperienced and injured Lance into a legitimate NFL starter.
In turn, the Niners can take that No. 39 pick, package it with the 99th overall selection in the third round this year and their own second-round selection in next year's draft (likely somewhere in the range of 60th overall) and send all three to Green Bay for a couple of years at the end of Rodgers' career.
Although this proposal consists of many moving parts, it is the kind of offer that could get a deal done for Rodgers if competition for his services is limited, and the Packers are indeed prepared to move into the next era of Green Bay football."
The San Francisco 49ers will be moving on from veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, who is set to enter free agency next month. Trey Lance missed nearly all of last season due to an ankle fracture, while 2022 hero Brock Purdy suffered a UCL injury in the NFC Championship Game, expected to keep him out of action until August.
San Francisco possesses two promising young quarterback options in Lance (the No. 3 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft) and Purdy, who won all five of his regular-season starts and two playoff games. Should Rodgers hit the trade block, will the 49ers be aggressive enough to acquire him from one of their biggest rivals? We have seen crazier things happen in football, so stay tuned.
