Heartbreaking news struck the sports world over the weekend as Devyn Reiley, the beloved daughter of former NFL player Bruce Collie, lost her life in a tragic plane crash in Wisconsin. She was only 30 years old.
The accident occurred during an airshow when Reiley, along with co-pilot Zach Colliemoreno, was flying a World War II-era T-6 Texan. In a shocking turn of events, the plane crashed into Lake Winnebago at an altitude of approximately 3,900 feet.
This devastating incident also claimed the lives of Mark Peterson and Thomas Volz in a separate crash, involving an ELA 10 Eclipse gyrocopter and a RotorWay162F helicopter.
Reiley, the eldest of Collie's 13 children, was a certified private pilot, following her passion for flying, which she embraced since becoming certified in 2017. Her father, Bruce Collie, was a prominent member of two 49ers Super Bowl champion teams. He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1985 to 1989 and later for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1990 to 1991.
Drafted by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 1985 NFL draft out of Texas-Arlington, Collie played five fruitful years with the team.
Devyn Reiley's love for aviation extended beyond her personal pursuits, as she co-founded the Texas Warbird Museum with her husband, Hunter, and family. The museum stands as a testament to their dedication to preserving retired World War II-era military aircraft.
As this tragic event shakes the Collie family, their friends, and the entire sports community, our thoughts and prayers go out to them during this incredibly difficult time.
