Fields is widely anticipated to be traded as the Bears proceed with a rookie quarterback expected to be selected with the first overall pick in April's draft. While Johnson and other Bears players have voiced their desire to retain Fields as their quarterback, Johnson emphasized his belief in Fields during a press conference in Chicago on Monday. He added that he doesn't anticipate any rifts within the team if the decision goes the other way.
"We all have our opinions and emotions, but regarding the cohesion of the locker room, I believe we have the right individuals to keep everything intact," said Johnson, as reported by Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. "We understand the nature of our profession. Therefore, I feel it would be immature of us not to come together as a team, even if Justin departs."
As of now, the Bears haven't finalized a deal to trade Fields. While players like Kirk Cousins and Russell Wilson have found new teams, potentially interested parties for Fields, there's uncertainty about when Johnson and his teammates will have to confront significant changes in the quarterback position.
