The Dallas Cowboys had a relatively calm offseason until this past weekend.

The bombshell news of the Cowboys acquiring quarterback Trey Lance from the 49ers left many speculating about Dak Prescott's thoughts on the matter. Jerry Jones admitted on Saturday that he hadn't given the two-time Pro Bowler any prior information.

«We kept it under wraps until it was finalized,» Jones shared on Saturday before the Cowboys' preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. «We only informed [Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy] post the decision. Our focus was solely on ensuring the deal went through without any hitches.»

When questioned if Prescott had been looped in about the acquisition of Lance, Jones clarified, «No, he wasn't informed.» This move diverges from the practice of some teams that keep their primary quarterbacks in the loop about potential acquisitions.

It's noteworthy that this won't be the first time Prescott and Lance meet. The duo had an interaction two years prior, during the events leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft.

The dynamic between Prescott and Lance will be worth watching. If Prescott's performance dips, discussions might arise regarding giving Lance a shot. At the moment, Lance is likely eager to shake off the «bust» tag and prove his worth.

The duration of Lance's stay in the Cowboys' lineup is still a matter of speculation. The former number three pick has a contract covering the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Dallas will soon face a decision on whether to secure his fully guaranteed fifth-year option for 2025.
