In contrast to his predecessor, Jordan Love doesn't appear too keen to take swipes at the Chicago Bears.
Love, the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, made headlines over the weekend when a video surfaced of him wishing «a Happy Father's Day to all the Bears fans out there.» This clip, which you can watch here, sparked a flurry of reactions, igniting the ire of Bears fans while amusing supporters of other NFL teams. Love's comment seemed to suggest that the Packers play the role of 'father' to the Bears.
However, on Monday, the narrative took an unexpected turn. The fan who originally posted the video, apparently a Bears aficionado from France, clarified that it was a simple miscommunication. He had asked Love to extend Father's Day wishes to all the French Bears fans, and Love had inadvertently left out the word «French».
Love himself affirmed this explanation, tweeting, «Was asked to do a special favor for this fan, didn't think much of it lol but I see y'all really took it and ran with it. Regardless I hope everyone had a great Fathers Day.» It would indeed have been audacious for Love to directly target the Bears, especially considering he hasn't yet faced off against Chicago in his career (with just a single NFL start to his name at this point). But as he steps into the shoes of the Packers' starting quarterback following Aaron Rodgers' departure this offseason, Love will get his first taste of this heated rivalry in the 2023 season opener against the Bears on Sept. 10. It won't be long before Love might willingly stoke the fires of the Bears rivalry, much like Rodgers did in his time.
